The British Dental Conference and Dentistry Show 2018 promises to be an unmissable event, with an outstanding speaker line-up starring some of the biggest names in dentistry right now. A vast array of topics will be covered to suit the needs and interests of every dental professional in attendance.

For dentists, there will be several lecture programmes to choose from, including the BACD Aesthetic and Digital Dentist Theatre, the Core CPD Theatre, the Special Interest Theatre and the Next Generation Conference. The latter is designed specifically for younger dentists in their initial few years after qualification and will offer practical information and advice to help them get a good head start in their careers.

In the Next Generation Conference 2018, Dr Tif Qureshi will be presenting a session entitled “Wear, function and next level diagnostics”. Dr Qureshi is a Past President of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD) and the UK pioneer of the globally renowned Inman Aligner anterior alignment orthodontic appliance. He also came up with the concept of progressive smile design through ‘Alignment, Bleaching and Bonding’ (ABB) and he is an experienced teacher on the Dahl principle.

“We all need to know how to treat patients over a lifetime, rather than focusing on single tooth dentistry,” he says. “Vast numbers of patients have untreated wear that worsens over time and they can require further, more expensive and even sometimes unattainable treatment later on.

“Treatments like the Dahl principle are massively underused around the globe and this is due to a lack of general education on how and when to use them.

Giving dentists the confidence to start considering such techniques will help millions of patients. I currently discuss the subject in countries all over the world and I have found a rapidly increasing demand to understand how to do this kind of treatment.”

Giving you an idea of what to expect from his lecture, Dr Qureshi describes the main topics he will cover this May:

“The Next Generation Conference 2017 was excellent – well-organised and fun. There was a wide range of speakers and some interesting topics that were relevant to all dentists. I am looking forward to the same benefits in 2018.

“In my lecture, I will look at the identification and treatment of tooth wear as a critical part of every dentist’s armamentarium. No patient seeing a dentist regularly should ever develop the need for a full mouth rehabilitation. We have the ability to stop and intercept these issues, but too often we don’t do enough. A simple but early approach to tooth wear cases can be highly predictable and massively interceptive.

“Delegates can expect to develop their understanding of how some simple steps can save patients years of expensive treatment further down the line. I hope to install confidence to think about tackling these cases, knowing which to do and which to refer. Professionals should also walk away with an enhanced insight into the Dahl principle and an understanding of when and how to use it.”

Sharing his extensive expertise in a different area, Dr Qureshi will also be presenting a session on tooth whitening in the BACD Aesthetic and Digital Dentist Theatre. About this lecture, he says:

“There is still a reasonable proportion of dentists who don’t whiten at all because they don’t get good results – often this is just down to the technique and materials used. The benefits of tooth whitening go far beyond just aesthetics, as it engages and motivates patients and also helps them make better decisions in smile design cases. I believe that by simply thinking through and re-examining the exact process of what is happening during treatment, dentists will be able to achieve much better and more predictable results.

“In my session I will cover the methods I use to whiten teeth efficiently, often using the ABB concept. I will talk about technique, tray design and patient management, as well as offering some practical advice to improve the handling of materials. These are all simple tips that I know have benefited other users immediately. They are logical and should help delegates produce better results in their own practices.”

The new collaboration between CloserStill Media and the British Dental Association is set to create an even bigger and better show for all members of the dental team to enjoy. There will be more learning opportunities, more verifiable CPD and more chances to network with professionals who share the share the same passion for excellent dentistry.

“The Dentistry Show has been getting better and better with each year,” adds Dr Qureshi. “It makes a lot of sense to have combined this with the BDA Conference – I like both shows and to bring them together should create something really special. It will likely be one of the main highlights of the year.”

Make sure you don’t miss Dr Qureshi and many other internationally renowned speakers at the British Dental Conference and Dentistry Show 2018!
