HPV is not gender specific!
NewsPosted by: Dental Design 7th February 2018
Following the increasing reports of HPV-related disease in men, it has become crucial to raise awareness of the dangers among the general public.
The British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy (BSDHT) is one of 48 patient and professional organisations forming the HPV Action group, which works hard to promote the causes and symptoms of HPV in an effort to improve prevention.
Only schoolgirls and women over the age of 25 have access to HPV vaccinations and cervical cancer screening – boys and men are still left worryingly unprotected.
Jabs for the Boys is the latest initiative designed to change this. The website (www.jabsfortheboys.uk) offers plenty of useful information that everyone should have and we would encourage all dental professionals to direct patients in its direction as a valuable resource.
Aimed at boys, adult men and the parents of boys, the site covers everything from what HPV is to who can get it, how it is transmitted, what the consequences can be and how it can be avoided.
Please support the cause and help us to spread the word – HVP is not gender specific and it’s important that patients know this!
