BADN brings National Dental Nursing Conference to British Dental Conference and Dentistry Show 2020

The British Dental Conference and Dentistry Show 2020 will offer an array of learning and networking opportunities for all dental nurses. Ensuring the relevance and quality of the educational programme, the British Association of Dental Nurses (BADN) will be hosting the National Dental Nursing Conference as part of the event.
The Dental Nurses Forum will be chaired by the BADN and will see leading speakers share their wealth of expertise and advice with delegates, covering everything from patient communication and management to skill development and career progression.
Programme highlights
Among the two days of lectures will be Debra Worthington sharing her wealth of expertise on the nation-wide Mouth Care Matters programme. She says:
“The Mouth Care Matters programme aims to create a healthcare team that is more responsive and personalised for patients. It aims to deliver better clinical outcomes, increasing awareness of the importance of good mouth care and how it impacts general health and quality of life. The initiative is relevant for anyone who provides personal care to patients, be that in an acute, care home or community setting.
“Dental nurses – especially those with an oral hygiene postgraduate qualification – are best placed to provide appropriate training to care providers. Dental nurses have the background training in identifying oral conditions, as well as up-to-date knowledge on the products available.”
Ensuring diversity of the programme, Sharon Brennan will discuss the challenges and solutions regarding indemnity for dental nurses.
“I will be exploring the importance of having comprehensive indemnity cover that meets the needs of today’s dental nurses in their evolving careers,” Sharon comments.
“Complaints to the GDC and litigation against the dental community are on the rise, so individual dental nurses need to ensure they are covered. This is not only their professional obligation as required by the GDC, but failure to carry indemnity can leave them personally exposed to dealing with claimant lawyers and the GDC on their own. This can be very stressful and expensive. It is the same reason that all regulated healthcare professionals carry their own indemnity – to protect themselves. A coat of armour if you will.”
