For many dental professionals, remaining abreast of the latest products, techniques and technologies in the industry offers both opportunity and inspiration. Discovering new innovations and concepts will help many to improve the quality of patient care they provide. Seeing the work of others and gaining ideas from like-minded individuals can also offer the motivation to really drive standards higher. Ultimately, this combines to raise both patient and professional satisfaction.

Events like the British Dental Conference and Dentistry Show are therefore ideal platforms from which to gain a wealth of information and experience. With educational programmes tailored to each member of the dental team, this conference offers hours of enhanced CPD alongside an extensive trade show with more than 450 dental manufacturers and suppliers. It also hosts the highly anticipated BDA Theatre and the entire event is delivered in collaboration with the British Dental Association. Whether you’re looking to develop your clinical skills or find new systems and equipment for your practice, this is the place for you.

Among the dedicated lecture programmes will be the Next Generation Conference, supported by Dental Circle. This has once again been designed for young and dynamic dentists who are looking to broaden their knowledge beyond the key topics covered at dental school. As such, it’s perfect for those seeking innovative ways to optimise their patient care and service delivery.

Dr Mide Ojo is the Principal of Refresh Dental in Twickenham. He will be speaking in the Next Generation Conference in May alongside Dr Thomas Sealey, Principal of Start Smiling Dentistry in Essex and multiple award winner. They will be sharing their extensive experience of the SmileFast smile design concept. Dr Ojo says:

“We will be introducing the SmileFast concept to delegates and showing how it provides solutions that enable the regular GDP to achieve beautiful, affordable and aesthetic smile makeovers.

“Composite bonding is one of the biggest growing modalities in modern dentistry and it is here to stay. The issue is that it can be very time-consuming and stressful, often producing end results that are suboptimal. SmileFast helps the general dentist to plan, design and deliver highly aesthetic composite restorations. For those patients who traditionally couldn’t afford a smile makeover or who would not have been offered appropriate solutions by their GDP, this offers a new option to improve their smile.”

Talking about the growing demand for these types of treatments and the possible driving forces behind recent trends, Dr Ojo continues:

“One of the reasons this field has grown significantly is the more minimally invasive popularity of social media in the mainstream. There is greater pressure on people to look a certain way and to constantly meet certain standards. Another reason is that the profession tends to prefer minimally invasive techniques and so additive dentistry makes sense. What would most dentists do to their own teeth? Drill them away or add directly and bond to the existing teeth? When done well, I think composite adhesive restorations can give fantastic results that are often life-changing and long-lasting. Both professionals and patients appreciate this.”

By overcoming potential challenges with a few simple steps, dentists can use innovative smile design techniques to improve both patient happiness and their own job satisfaction.

“The most common challenges we face are the time required per case, the technical detail required to achieve natural-looking restorations and achieving a balance between cost and time (profit),” comments Dr Ojo. “Most dentists love doing this type of work and find it very rewarding. Therefore, if we can reduce the clinical time for the patient and the dentist, but enhance the end results and boost profits, then I believe this is a valuable tool for many clinicians.

“I hope delegates attending my session will learn that SmileFast is a potential solution to the normal challenges that many GDPs face in everyday practice. Using the latest technology, we can now deliver something far better than we previously could have achieved. The lecture will introduce the system, provide an overview of how it works and explore clinical indications. We have already had the pleasure of welcoming more than 300 dentists to the SmileFast family and we hope to help more clinicians benefit from the concept. I’m looking forward to seeing many familiar faces over the course of the British Dental Conference and Dentistry Show 2020. If anyone has any questions about what we’re doing, please come and ask!”

Indeed, the British Dental Conference and Dentistry Show will offer many opportunities for networking, enabling everyone to meet old friends and connect with new people from all corners of the industry. Make sure you don’t miss out!
