‘Perio plus’ proves beneficial in viral load reduction

A new study[i] has found that ‘Perio plus regenerate’ mouthwash reduces SARS-CoV-2 viral load in saliva.
The multicentre, double-blind study demonstrated that a single rinse of ß-cyclodextrin-citrox mouthwash (‘Perio plus regenerate’) significantly decreased the risk of SARS-CoV-2 contamination through saliva in patients with no to mild symptoms of COVID-19 4 hours after initial dose.
There was a significant difference in viral load when comparing before and after mouth rinsing between the ‘Perio plus regenerate’ mouthwash and placebo group. Participants with the ß-cyclodextrin-citrox mouthwash also experienced a greater reduction in viral load over seven days compared to the placebo group.
These initial results suggest that ‘Perio plus regenerate’ could provide an effective additional barrier to viral transmission for patients pre- and post-treatment.
