The Scottish CDO addresses delegates at the OHC

Among the many highlights of this year’s OHC from the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy (BSDHT) was the chance for delegates to hear from Tom Ferris, the Chief Dental Officer for Scotland.
Joining the event live via Zoom, Tom spoke about the challenges that the pandemic has presented the profession and the difficult decisions that had to be made, especially for dental hygienists and dental therapists who were, for the most part, unable to access government support such as the furlough scheme.
In light of these challenges, Tom went on to speak about how there is now representation for all registrant groups at a government level and that there is also a bigger drive to ensure that the systems are working for the whole profession.
It was an engaging, important update that helped delegates contextualise the current situation and see the hope on the horizon.
