Claire Stevens CBE, Past President and spokesperson for the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry (BSPD), gave a keynote address at the Oral Health Conference (OHC) 2021 hosted by the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy (BSDHT).
Focusing on paediatric dentistry in a post-pandemic era, the session was highly insightful and relevant for all.
Claire Stevens said:
“I was honoured to be invited to give a keynote speech at the OHC. To have the opportunity to talk to an audience ranging from students through to those in clinical practice is important to BSPD.
“BSPD puts great value on the collaborative relationship forged with the BSDHT membership. With our shared mission for promoting oral health in children and young people we know that by working together we can ensure it gets the attention it needs. Dental hygienists and dental therapists play a pivotal role in putting into action initiatives to target the young and most vulnerable in our society to prevent tooth decay.
BSPD believes there needs to be more focus and attention on prevention, support and care – and the role of the dental hygienist and dental therapist to drive this through is crucial.
As the UK recovers from the pandemic, collaboration between our two Societies is more important than ever – and we look forward to another year working together to promote oral health for the youngest and most in need in our communities.”
