Straumann Launches 2022 Charity Bike Ride

Straumann is delighted to bring back the legendary Charity Bike Ride! This year, riders will take on approximately 500 miles from Bilbao to Sitges in Spain. The challenge will be welcome approximately 60 cyclists from the dental profession, who aim to raise a total of £75,000 for this year’s designated and very deserving charity – Dentaid.
Dentaid works tirelessly to provide access to essential dental care for the most vulnerable people in our communities. With mobile units operating around the country, the charity often helps those experiencing homelessness, head and neck cancer patients, refugees and asylum seekers, looked after children, fishing communities and victims of domestic abuse.
Dentaid CEO, Andy Evans, commented:
“We are so excited to be partnering with Straumann for this year’s Charity Bike Ride. As a keen cyclist I am very much looking forward to joining the ride as the route looks fantastic and the event well organised. The funds raised will help more people of the most vulnerable people in our communities to access dentistry here in the UK. Hopefully during the ride I will also be able to inspire other riders to volunteer their time and skills to help us reach more people.”
The Straumann Charity Bike Ride 2022 will help Dentaid purchase a new mobile dental unit so that even more people can be given access to the basic dental care and support they desperately need.
Harvey James, a dental technician, will be participating in this year’s Straumann Charity Bike Ride, making it his third cycling adventure with the team. He shares his experience and why he’s so keen to take on the challenge for 2022:
“This is such a great trip because all the technicians and dentists involved are like a big family. It offers fantastic networking for me, with clinicians who use Straumann solutions participating too and it is a great opportunity to meet with clients outside dentistry away from the pressures of work. Plus, I’m giving something back to the industry and the community.
“The event itself is amazing. It’s very well organised and everything is taken care of for you, all you have to do is cycle for 8-9 hours a day. I’m a keen cyclist but it’s still hard work – 500 miles is no mean feat, with 100-mile rides 5 days on the bounce! Straumann always supports great charities, and I appreciate that we’re keeping things within the industry by working with Dentaid this year.
“My advice for anyone thinking about taking on this kind of challenge in the future is to not underestimate the distance. Training is important and you need to build up the miles over the coming months. When you’re prepared, this is a brilliant experience. You go with a like-minded group who provide fantastic support and motivation throughout. It’s an amazing thing to be a part of and great to be able to give back while having a bit of fun.”
