This new initiative encourages health care professionals to adopt a greener business approach and a shared commitment to environmental sustainability

Henry Schein Dental and Optident, a Henry Schein company, have announced Practice Green, an international initiative designed to encourage practitioners, practice teams, and dental laboratories to become more eco-friendly and to help empower the health care community to establish sustainable practices for a healthier planet.

According to the World Health Organisation, between 2030 and 2050, climate change is expected to cause approximately 250,000 additional deaths per year from malnutrition, malaria, diarrhoea, and heat stress. Nurses [and other health care professionals] can be instrumental in communications with patients and families, working with hospitals and health systems to reduce emissions and influencing the adoption of strategies to better prepare the health care facilities and communities for the health impacts of climate change, as stated in a report by PubMed.gov.

Practice Green by Henry Schein aims to offer customers solutions that will help to implement practical ways to become more sustainable, while following the current health and safety legislation and continuing to provide high-quality patient care. A selection of environmentally friendly products and solutions will be available, as well as services and support to help create greener practices and enhance environmental sustainability efforts.

A product provided in the Practice Green portfolio has been carefully selected by Henry Schein as ‘green’ based on the marketing information provided by the supplier partner for the product that it is either reusable, contains recycled materials, can be recycled or are biodegradable, or are from a sustainable source.

“We are pleased to present Henry Schein’s Practice Green programme for our customers throughout the EMEA region and soon beyond,” said Andrea Albertini, President, International Distribution Group, Henry Schein. “As a global distributor of health care solutions, we support health care professionals and the journey towards enhancing environmental sustainability.”

“Practice Green embodies Henry Schein’s commitment to offer customers the latest, innovative products and solutions that help enhance efficiency, optimise care delivery, and provide high-quality patient care,” added Mr. Albertini. “Through this programme, we advance our commitment to meeting the needs of our customers who are concerned about the environmental impact of their practice or laboratory. We strongly believe that the actions we take today will help protect the earth and our natural resources as well help build a healthier world for all.”

The programme starts in January and will continue to expand over time, with new products, services, and solutions added as Practice Green evolves with the ever-changing health care landscape.

Practice Green aligns with Henry Schein’s commitment to mitigate its impact on the climate, reduce waste to landfills, and recycle and reuse materials, while practicing smart and efficient use of energy and water resources. The company is continuously strengthening its approach to measuring, monitoring, and reporting on its carbon emissions and other environmental impacts. In 2021, Henry Schein signed the Business Ambition for 1.5⁰C Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), committing to set a long-term, science-based emissions reduction target in order to reach net-zero global emissions by 2050.

With its global environmental footprint and unique position within an ecosystem of relationships with suppliers, business partners, and customers, Henry Schein aims to co-create an ethical, inclusive, circular, and carbon-neutral supply chain, jointly manage our impacts, and innovate for sustainability.
